Good News

The Good News of the Christian faith is that God so loved the world that he sent his only son, Jesus, so that whoever believes him would not die but have eternal life.

There is one, true, living God who has made himself known to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The Father is love and created the world out of that love. To rescue the world from the evil that entered into it he gave us the gift of his Son, Jesus. This was a free gift with no strings attached, an undeserved gift which is therefore called a gift of grace. Jesus was sent to break through the barriers that separate humanity from God. To bring us home and allow us to know the Father’s love anew.

Jesus came and took on our humanity, entered into our mess, so that he could pay the price for all our selfishness. He lived in a way that showed what God’s Kingdom looked like in its generosity, compassion, mercy and forgiveness. In the end he died in our place upon a cross so that we might go free from sentence that our rebellion against God brings upon us. His resurrection and ascension show that God did indeed defeat death and sin. Because he is risen we can look forward to resurrection in him.

The work of the Holy Spirit is to fill the life of every believer with God’s grace, love, joy and peace.  He is the one who can lead us into all truth and show us how life is meant to be lived. The spirit also brings gifts that will develop in the life of each Christian to enable us to serve God in the world.

This Good News changes everything, bringing us freedom through forgiveness and a new identity as God’s children. Knowing we are precious children of God compels us to share that love of God with the world around us. We are saved by grace through faith and not through anything that we can do. We are rescued so that we can be part of God’s great rescue plan for all of creation and enjoy his love forever.
