Fourth Word from the Cross – Abandoned …

Mark 15:33-34 NLT
At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock.
Then at three o’clock Jesus called out with a loud voice,
Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?
Which means  My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?

Psalm 22:1-2 NLT
My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
Why are you so far away when I groan for help?
Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer.
Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief.

Three hours of darkness and separation
Jesus knows what it feels like to be alone and utterly desolate but …
He was not abandoned – John and the women stood at the foot of the cross.
Death did not overcome him – God the Father raised him from the dead.

And because of his death:
I will never be abandoned or overcome by anything, not even death.
