Even when I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
    protect and comfort me.
Psalm 23:4

Lord God,
This illness is making me depressed.
I am irritated by its aches and pains.
I get tired of doing nothing.
I worry about the extra work I’m causing others.
I hate the loss of independence.

Speak to me in the quietness about your majesty,
About your care for all that you have made,
And your love for me.

Fill me with a peace beyond my understanding,
Give me patience with all I have to bear
And remind me of the cross that Jesus carried
And his victory over death itself.  Amen

Father, we pray for those who are sick in body, mind or spirit.
Please bring them your peace in their pain,
your strength in their weakness
and your comfort in their sadness.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Lord Jesus
As the friends of the paralysed man lowered him to your feet,
we lay before you our loved ones who are ill, disabled or frail.
Give them the courage to live through this day.
Give them glimpses of hope.
Give them your care through the professionals looking after them.
Give them your love through us.
And may they know that your love will never leave them.  Amen.
