We’re ready for Christmas, not when we have all the gifts, but when we are ready for Christ
when we’re ready to give all of ourselves to Christ.   Ann Voskamp

In the creation, Michelangelo depicts God reaching out to Adam.

God puts in the effort
but Adam seems half hearted.

A generation later another man named Michelangelo became known after his hometown, Caravaggio to distinguish himself from his namesake.
He also produced a famous painting focussing on hands.
This is the recreation of man through the birth of Jesus.

St Francis has his hands clasped in prayer.
Jacob as his old hands leaning on his staff in worship.
The angel has one hand pointing to heaven
and one hand pointing to the Christ child.
Mary and Joseph have their hands pointing to Jesus.
The infant Jesus reaches out his right hand
   to touch Joseph’s toes.

The Mafia stole this painting in the 1960’s.

Don’t let Christmas be stolen from you
  – reach out your hands,
to God who has reached out his hand,
in Jesus.
