 Philippians 4:5 NIV
Let your gentleness be evident to all.
The Lord is near.

James 3:17 NLT
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure.
It is also peace loving, gentle at all times,
and willing to yield to others.
It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds.
It shows no favouritism and is always sincere.

Lord Jesus
Gentle me when I face both fair and unfair criticism.
Gentle me when I think things that are obvious to me ought to be obvious to everybody else.
Gentle me when people invade “my” space
 – and I think I have some inalienable right to an uninterrupted life.

Gentle me when friends keep making the same mistakes and foolish choices.
Gentle me when I start debating theology rather than loving the people who see things differently.
Gentle me when I can’t “fix” the people you never gave me to fix.

And Lord, please be gentle with me
– when I lack the humility to see that you don’t depend on me but I should depend on you
– when I make the same mistakes over and over again
And please help me to grow to be the gentle person that you want me to be.  Amen.
