Jesus is stripped of his garments
Psalm 22:17-18 NLT
I can count all my bones.
My enemies stare at me and gloat.
They divide my garments among themselves and throw dice for my clothing.
Even Jesus’s clothes are mere booty, to be shared between the soldiers to supplement their pay.
They are part of his ‘net value’.
The Son of the Most High God is treated as a piece of property,
redeeming all those who have or will be bought and sold, from slaves to sex workers.
Luke 23:34 NLT
Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.
And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.
Whilst the soldiers were focussed on the now,
Jesus was focussed on their eternal future – even in the midst of all his pain.
